The Galapagos Islands are like no other place. Some 600 miles west of the Ecuadorian mainland, these isolated volcanic islands were famously the inspiration for Darwin’s theories of evolution. For many nature lovers the Galapagos are a must-see destination, and with native birds and reptiles having lived for thousands of years with no fear of predators, human visitors to the islands are able to experience remarkably close encounters with the creatures they meet.
